Everything is awesome for British Airways right now as they’ve beaten off the likes of LEGO and Rolex to be the UK’s Top Brand for 2017. That’s all according to a key sampling of branding experts and the great British public alike.
Each year, the branding gurus at Superbrands commission independent research to identify and name the UK’s strongest brands. Their annual league table is based on the opinions of marketing professionals and business leaders – along with thousands of everyday British consumers.
Voters in this ‘battle of the brands’ were asked to judge the selected brands on three main factors:
- Quality – Does the brand provide quality products and services?
- Reliability – Can the brand be trusted to consistently deliver?
- Distinction – Is the brand well known in their sector and suitably different from their rivals?
Brands do not pay, or apply to be considered, for the Superbrands’ Top 20.
As for 2017’s winning brand, Superbrands say British Airways are really committed to putting the customer at the heart of everything they do. Over the past 12 months, the airline have also shown a renewed focus on improvements to their customer experience. In related news, British Airways recently celebrated chalking up over one million followers on Twitter.
“In what can only be described as a significant year of change, the UK public have very much opted for brands that represent continuity, consistency and comfort,” reveals Stephen Cheliotis, council chairman of Superbrands. “Whether it is John Lewis or Cadbury, the Top 20 brands, bar a few notable exceptions such as Google and Apple, are traditional stalwarts of UK life.”
